## Synopsis

Elisa di Rivombrosa (2003-2005) is an Italian period romance series created by Cinzia TH Torrini and Stefano Alleva for Canale 5. Vittoria Puccini plays Elisa Scalzi, a maid serving as lady companion to the countess Agnes, while Alessandro Preziosi plays Count Fabrizio Ristori, the aristocrat who falls for her. Their romance is the engine of the show, and every episode pushes it against obstacles: a noble family's disapproval, scheming courtiers, and a run of misfortunes that seem to mock their hopes. Antonella Fattori and Jane Alexander add principal family and society drama around the couple. Across two seasons and twenty-six episodes, the story unfolds in eighteenth century Piedmont under the reign of Carlo Emanuele III, with lavish palaces, carriages, and gowns giving the melodrama a sumptuous texture. The tone is sincere and emotional, with heightened romantic longing and a steady current of intrigue. Viewers who enjoy Italian costume drama, Poldark, and Bridgerton will find a similar appetite for class-divided love, scandal, and lush period detail. The series is a broadcast television drama that works best for those who want sweeping romance in a historical European setting.
