## Synopsis

Ulysses 31 (1981-1982) is a French animated science fiction series created by Jean Chalopin, Yoshitake Suzuki and Nina Wolmark for France 3 and RTL, produced in a Franco-Japanese collaboration with Tokyo Movie Shinsha. Its protagonist is Ulysses, a voyager whose spaceship crew, including his companion Nono and the young Telemachus, travels a far-future cosmos. Their goal is to resist the divine entities of Greek mythology who rule the universe, and each episode frames the crew's struggle as a classical myth reborn among the stars. The series runs for one season of twenty-six episodes, a self-contained case-of-the-week adventure built around gods, monsters and space voyages. Voice performers Claude Giraud, Jacques Ebner and Annie Sinigalia lend their voices to the main cast. Its tone is bright, earnest and adventurous, with a sense of wonder and a gentle heroism suited to young viewers. Fans of Captain Harlock, Star Blazers and Saint Seiya will find a similar mix of space opera, classical myth and family-friendly animated heroism. The show remains a nostalgic favourite of early European animation and an easy entry point to mythology for children.
