## Synopsis

Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends (1998-2000) is a British documentary series created by Louis Theroux for BBC Two. Across three seasons and sixteen episodes of roughly fifty minutes each, the journalist Louis Theroux embeds himself with unusual American communities, from fringe religious groups to eccentric enthusiasts and figures on the margins of public life. Former wrestler Roddy Piper and Bill Goldberg appear in single episodes, alongside other subjects who speak for themselves. The engine of each episode is the awkward encounter: Theroux asks mild, persistent questions, follows his subjects through their daily routines, and waits for unguarded moments to surface. The series moves at the pace of observation rather than plot, with each weekend a self-contained portrait. Its tone is wry, deadpan and humane, with discomfort and absurdity sitting side by side with genuine curiosity. Fans of observational documentary such as Grizzly Man and Louis Theroux's Altered States will find the same blend of distance and intimacy. Set in late twentieth century America, it captures a snapshot of subcultures at the edge of mainstream life.
