## Synopsis

Isabel (2012-2014) is a Spanish national-television historical drama series created by Javier Ródenas and Isla de Babel for La 1. Set in fifteenth-century Castile and Aragon, it follows Michelle Jenner as Isabel I de Castilla from childhood through the political struggles of King Henry IV's court to her eventual crowning as queen. Her determination to refuse the role of figurehead drives the story, as she navigates rival claims, scheming nobles, and her courtship with Rodolfo Sancho's Fernando II de Aragón. Pedro Casablanc's Alfonso Carrillo de Acuña and Pablo Derqui's Enrique IV de Castilla anchor the court politics that surround her. Each episode is built from alliances, betrayals and the personal costs of ambition inside royal palaces. Across three seasons of thirteen episodes each, the series keeps one continuing story where order matters. Its tone is stately and emotionally earnest, with a renaissance-era palace atmosphere and a sense of a woman ahead of her time. Viewers who enjoy The Crown, The Tudors and other royal period dramas will find resonance in its blend of dynastic intrigue and intimate character drama.
