## Synopsis

Girls (2012-2017) is an HBO dramedy created by Lena Dunham, a six-season serialized comedy following four very different twenty-something women in Brooklyn. Dunham stars as Hannah Horvath, an aspiring writer whose unpaid internship and stalled manuscript keep sending her into humiliating situations, while Allison Williams plays Marnie Michaels, her polished art gallery assistant roommate, Jemima Kirke plays the restless Jessa Johansson, and Zosia Mamet plays the earnest Shoshanna Shapiro. Adam Driver appears as Adam Sackler, a volatile and unpredictable man entangled with Hannah. Each season is built from awkward dates, failed jobs, money trouble and the shifting loyalties between the friends, unfolding as one continuing story rather than standalone case episodes. The tone is candid, sharply funny and often uncomfortable, with a raw, intimate look at early adulthood, sexual confusion and the anxiety of not yet knowing who you are. Set in contemporary New York, it has a loose, handheld naturalism and a bittersweet warmth beneath its self-absorption. Fans of Sex and the City, Insecure and Crashing will find resonance in its frank portrayal of young urban women trying to build lives that look like the ones they imagined.
