## Synopsis

Seven Women (A Casa das Sete Mulheres, 2003) is a Brazilian national-television historical romance miniseries created by Maria Adelaide Amaral and Walther Negrão for TV Globo. Told across a single 51-episode run, it follows the women of the Gonçalves da Silva family, who remain at home while their husbands and fathers take up arms in a nineteenth century civil war. Camila Morgado plays Manuela, a headstrong woman who leaves her marriage to ride into battle, while Mariana Ximenes plays Rosário, a gentler aristocratic figure torn by her feelings. Nívea Maria and Eliane Giardini anchor the household as matriarchs, and Thiago Lacerda and Giovanna Antonelli appear as the revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi and Anita Garibaldi. The engine of the series is the tension between duty to family and the pull of passion, as each woman waits, schemes and loves under the shadow of war. Episodes move through letters, household intrigue and battlefield news, building a sweeping saga of marriage, independence and longing. The tone is melodramatic and sentimental, with a lush period atmosphere. Fans of Anne with an E, Ivanhoe and War and Peace will find resonance in its blend of historical scale and romantic yearning.
