## Synopsis

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt (2010) is a Japanese adult animated comedy series created for BS Nippon TV, produced by the anime studio GAINAX. Panty and Stocking, two foul-mouthed angels banished from the pearly gates, spend their days hunting ghosts in the lecherous abyss between Heaven and Earth. Their partner Garterbelt, a afro-sporting companion with a fetish the show refuses to name, rounds out the trio, and voice actors Arisa Ogasawara and Mariya Ise give the leads their brash energy. The engine of each short episode is simple: the sisters chase a ghost, and the chaos escalates through slapstick destruction, sexual innuendo and sugar-fueled bad behavior. Running one season of twenty-eight twelve-minute episodes, it is a single loose, episodic run rather than a continuing plot. Its tone is loud, irreverent and deliberately offensive, with frenetic hand-drawn excess that channels the parody spirit of anime and cartoon satire. Fans of Invader Zim, Sausage Party and Hell Girl will find resonance in its mix of supernatural absurdity and crude adult comedy.
