## Synopsis

Alice in Wonderland (1985) is an American two-night miniseries created for CBS, adapting Lewis Carroll's classic children's novel into a lavish family fantasy. Natalie Gregory plays Alice, a curious girl who chases a very unusual White Rabbit (Red Buttons) down a hole into a topsy-turvy realm where she is constantly growing too big or shrinking too small. Anthony Newley plays the Mad Hatter, Roddy McDowall the March Hare, and Robert Morley the King of Hearts, with Jayne Meadows as the Queen of Hearts and Arte Johnson as the Dormouse. Each evening is built from a sequence of strange encounters, riddling conversations, and surreal tea parties, with the wonderland's logic constantly reversing and Alice trying to find her way back home. Produced by Irwin Allen with a bright, colorful, theatrical look, the miniseries runs about ninety minutes per episode across two episodes. Its tone is whimsical, gentle and playful, with a dreamlike sense of wonder suited to children and to adults who remember the book. Fans of the 1951 Disney animated film, Labyrinth and Return to Oz will find a similar spirit of childlike fantasy and nonsense.
