## Synopsis

Record of Lodoss War is a Japanese original video animation high fantasy series produced by Madhouse and aired as a single thirteen-episode run of roughly twenty-five minutes each. Its protagonist is the young fighter Parn, who gathers a party of six warriors including the elf Deedlit, the wizard Etoh and the knight Slayn. Their engine is a quest to stop an ancient goddess of destruction awakened by an evil wizard, and each episode moves them through dangerous lands where dragons rule and dark forces hold sway. The land carries the weight of thousands of years of war, so the adventure feels heavy with history as well as peril. The tone is earnest and heroic, with a melancholic undercurrent of sacrifice and fading kingdoms, and the animation carries the sweep of a classic fantasy epic. Built on dungeons and dragons conventions of elves, dragons and adventuring parties, the series suits viewers who love a compact sword and sorcery journey. Fans of Slayers, Dragonlance Chronicles and The Lord of the Rings will find resonance in its fellowship and its stakes.
