## Synopsis

Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit (2007) is a Japanese animated fantasy adventure series created by Nahoko Uehashi, produced by Production I.G and broadcast on NHK BS2. Based on Uehashi's novel, it follows Balsa, a wandering spearwoman who saves lives in atonement for a past sin. Her path crosses that of Prince Chagum, whom his own emperor father wants dead, and she is tasked with becoming his bodyguard. Across a single 26-episode season, the engine of the story is a fugitive journey: Balsa and her charge flee pursuers through a fantasy realm of villages, mountain passes and river crossings, each episode bringing a new encounter with danger and new companions. Gradually the series unveils Balsa's buried history and the mysterious condition afflicting Chagum, weaving spiritual lore into the chase. The tone is melancholic yet warm, with quiet moments of tenderness amid visceral action. Its emphasis on loyalty, guilt and makeshift family places it alongside Avatar: The Last Airbender and Princess Mononoke for viewers who love fantasy anime with heart.
