## Synopsis

Van Vlees en Bloed (2009) is a Flemish family drama created by Tom van Dyck for the national broadcaster VRT. Across a single season of seven episodes, it follows the Vangenechten family, who run a prosperous butcher shop in contemporary Flanders. Their steady routine is upended when Rudy, the couple's only son, returns after years away, refusing to explain where he has been yet insisting on a place in the family business. His parents anchor the household, while brothers and relatives carry old rivalries and loyalties, and an outsider adds a further pressure point. The engine is the tension between a family determined to close ranks and a son guarding his secret, with each episode peeling back another layer of resentment and unspoken history. The tone is grounded, intimate and melancholic, more interested in silences, guilt and kinship than in plot twists. Viewers who enjoy slow-burn character studies like Ferro, or the domestic dysfunction of Six Feet Under and Succession, will find a quiet, emotionally textured portrait of a family under strain.
