## Synopsis

The L.A. Complex (2012) is a Canadian young adult soap drama created by Martin Gero for CTV, distributed in the United States via The CW. Six young performers, each once celebrated as most likely to succeed in their hometowns, move to Los Angeles to chase acting careers and find that the city offers as many obstacles as opportunities. Connor Lake (Jonathan Patrick Moore), Nick Wagner (Joe Dinicol), Abby Vargas (Cassie Steele) and Raquel Westbrook (Jewel Staite) anchor the ensemble, with Kaldrick King (Andra Fuller) and Alicia Lowe (Chelan Simmons) rounding out the group. The engine of the show is the push and pull between ambition and friendship: auditions, rent, romantic entanglements and shifting loyalties shape nearly every episode. Its run was short, spanning one brief season of six episodes followed by a longer second season, and the story unfolds as one continuing thread of interlocking lives. The tone is breezy and sincere, with soapy melodrama softened by warmth and a wistful sense of being young and far from home. Viewers who enjoy 90210, The OC and Entourage will find a similar pull of youthful aspiration and tangled relationships in a sun-drenched city.
