## What critics say

Critics found Blood-C's animation and action striking, but the short single season's rushed plotting left its horror mystery feeling underdeveloped and uneven.

## Synopsis

Blood-C is a short Japanese animated supernatural horror series from Production I.G. that unfolds across a single season of twelve episodes. On the surface, Saya Kisaragi is an ordinary shrine maiden and high school girl in a quiet country town, but she secretly wields a sword against monsters that feed on human blood. Each battle exacts a rising emotional cost as her classmates and friends are drawn into the violence, and the familiar calm of school life and small-town routine grows steadily more unreliable. The mood is dark, unsettling and melancholic, with visceral set pieces played against an everyday backdrop that keeps cracking. Its appeal lies in the gap between innocence and carnage, the heroine trapped between duty and dread, and the slow realization that the surroundings she trusted may not be what they seem. Brisk pacing and bloody action give it an intense, compact feel, and the story rewards viewers who enjoy gore, bleak secrets and atmospheric horror with a moody, claustrophobic edge.
