## Synopsis

María Isabel (1997-1998) is a Mexican telenovela created by Yolanda Vargas Dulché for Las Estrellas, produced by Televisa. Across a single season of 125 episodes, the story follows María Isabel Sanchez (Adela Noriega), a young Native American girl whose friendship with Graciela, a rich white girl, endures despite Graciela's father's firm opposition. The emotional engine is the pull between two households divided by class and background, as the girls' bond is tested by parental disapproval and social expectation. Each episode builds through the rituals of a soap opera, with confrontations, reconciliations and sudden turns of fortune driving the narrative forward. The show carries the warm, sentimental register typical of Latin American melodrama, with a hopeful core about loyalty and belonging. Its shape is a long, continuous serial with a complete arc, its scale modest in terms of setting but broad in emotional scope. Fans of Rosalinda, Betty la Fea and Yo soy Betty, la fea will find resonance in its class-conscious romance and family melodrama. The story unfolds in Mexico, where ordinary domestic life meets a class hierarchy that the friendship quietly challenges.
