## Synopsis

Yalan Dünya (2012-2014) is a Turkish family sitcom created by Gülse Birsel and Jale Atabey Özberk for Kanal D. Altan Erkekli plays Şehmuz Kocabaş and Füsun Demirel plays Servet Kocabaş, a household whose members keep covering their small falsehoods with bigger ones. Gülse Birsel appears as Deniz Alsancak, Olgun Şimşek plays the double role of Selahattin and Ahmet Çakaler, and Hasibe Eren plays Gülistan Kocabaş Çakaler, with Sarp Apak and Öner Erkan rounding out the principal cast. Each episode is built from concrete domestic situations, such as a secret kept from a spouse, an awkward visit from relatives, or a white lie told to avoid an embarrassing dinner, and the comedy grows as one fib forces the next. The show runs across four seasons and roughly ninety episodes, presented as a continuing family story rather than standalone case-of-the-week episodes. Set in contemporary Istanbul, it carries the warm, bickering, noisy atmosphere of a middle-class Turkish household. The tone is breezy and affectionate, with farce and gentle irony. Fans of Everybody Loves Raymond and Modern Family will find resonance in its ensemble squabbles and its tenderness toward flawed relatives.
