## Synopsis

Deceptions (1998) is a Mexican telenovela created by Inés Rodena for Las Estrellas, a single-season romance drama of 120 episodes. Gabriela Spanic plays both separated twin sisters, the working-class Paulina who is pressed into impersonating her glamorous sister Paola Bracho, and the luxury-seeking Paola herself. Fernando Colunga plays Carlos Daniel Bracho, the husband whose household becomes the stage for the deception, while Chantal Andere and Libertad Lamarque round out the powerful Bracho family circle. The engine of the story is a dangerous substitution: Paulina must keep up the appearance of her absent sister while navigating a household of suspicion, shifting loyalties and unexpected attraction, and each episode builds through confrontations, secret meetings and escalating lies. Set in contemporary Mexico among wealthy families and their servants, the series moves through melodrama, heartbreak and class tension in a heightened, emotionally direct register. Fans of Dos Mujeres, un Camino, Rubí and Betty la Fea will find resonance in its operatic romance, doubled heroine and sharp social divides.
