## Synopsis

Aufschneider (2010) is an Austrian dark comedy miniseries created by David Schalko for ORF 1, running two episodes of roughly three hours total. Set in contemporary Vienna, it follows the hospital pathologist Dr. Fuhrmann (Josef Hader), who is stubbornly confrontational with colleagues, especially Dr. Böck, whose relationship with Fuhrmann's ex-wife Karin Fuhrmann (Ursula Strauss) complicates his life. The engine of the story is a comic chain of errors: Dr. Wehninger (Pia Hierzegger) has spirited her deceased father out of pathology to keep him from an autopsy, and the body must be smuggled back to the hospital without anyone noticing. Meanwhile assistant Dr. Winkler (Manuel Rubey) uncovers a lively trade in corneas taken from deceased patients, run by the prosector's assistant and a mortician played by Meret Becker. Their scheme is not something they intend to give up without a fight. The tone is deadpan, morbid and absurd, with bureaucratic routine and the indignities of death treated as farce. Fans of Six Feet Under, Fargo and Dead Set will find resonance in its mix of gallows humor and petty criminality.
