## Synopsis

Kavanagh Q.C. (1995-1999) is a British legal drama series created by Ted Childs and Susan Rogers for ITV1. John Thaw stars as James Kavanagh Q.C., one of London's most respected criminal advocates, a barrister admired by colleagues and opponents alike who pays a steep private price for his dedication to the courtroom. Anna Chancellor plays Julia Piper, one of the principal figures orbiting his professional and personal life. Across five seasons of feature-length episodes, the engine of the show is the grind of criminal defence work: cases that demand relentless preparation, hard-edged cross-examination, and the constant question of whether the truth can ever be fully established inside a courtroom. Each episode is built around a legal battle, with the euphoric highs of a won case set against the costly lows of failure and the strain on family and relationships. The tone is sober, adult and dramatic, with a measured pace that lets arguments and character tension breathe. Set in contemporary 1990s London, the series is a Carlton Television production for ITV1 and sits in the tradition of British courtroom drama. Fans of Silk, Boston Legal and Cracker will find resonance in its legal intrigue, moral complexity and flawed, driven protagonist.
