## Synopsis

Vikings (2013-2020) is a Canadian historical drama series created by Michael Hirst for History and later Prime Video. Travis Fimmel plays Ragnar Lothbrok, a farmer turned raider who dreams of sailing west beyond the known world and rising above his station, while Katheryn Winnick plays his shieldmaiden wife Lagertha, Gustaf Skarsgard plays the restless, inventive Floki, and Alex Hogh Andersen plays Ivar. The engine of the show is ambition pitted against kinship: Ragnar must win land, wealth and political allies through raids, sea voyages and shifting alliances while his brothers, sons and rivals compete for the same prize. Each season is built around battles, feuds and intrigue in a single continuing saga of six seasons, a serialized historical epic set in the ninth-century Scandinavian world of Kattegat and beyond. Its tone is gritty and earthy, with visceral combat, mythic visions and the rhythms of a Norse saga. Fans of The Last Kingdom and Game of Thrones will find resonance in its blend of historical grit and dynastic rivalry.
