## Synopsis

Appropriate Adult (2011) is a British true crime miniseries created for ITV1 and produced by ITV Studios. Across two ninety-minute episodes, it dramatizes the real case of Gloucester housewife and social worker Janet Leach, played by Emily Watson, who becomes a pivotal figure in uncovering the crimes of Fred and Rosemary West. Dominic West plays Fred West and Monica Dolan plays Rose West, while Robert Glenister appears as Detective Superintendent John Bennett. The engine of the story is a quiet, persistent struggle: an ordinary woman pressing reluctant authorities to take her concerns seriously while the grim truth of a family home slowly comes into focus. Scenes move between the suburban domestic world of the Wests, interview rooms, and police investigations, with the investigation built from confessions, disappearances, and the search of a basement and garden. The tone is bleak, grounded, and unsettling, with restrained performances that let the dread accumulate. Set in 1990s Gloucester, England, the miniseries is a single, complete story. Fans of Mindhunter, Making a Murderer and The Serial Killer's Wife will find resonance in its procedural realism and its focus on real-life atrocity.
