## Synopsis

The Great Doctor (2012) is a South Korean time travel romance series created by Kim Jong-hak and Song Ji-na for SBS. Modern-day doctor Yoo Eun Soo (Kim Hee-seon) is wrenched from her life and sent back roughly seven centuries to a royal court, where she must rely on her medical skill to survive. Her engine is a tangle of longing and danger: she wants to return home while her practice draws attention in a kingdom suspicious of foreign knowledge. Choi Young (Lee Min-ho), an abrasive general, becomes both her chief antagonist and the object of a slow, prickly attraction. Across a single run of twenty-four episodes, each hour mixes sickroom scenes, sword fights, and palace maneuvering with the question of whether love can be found across centuries. Set in medieval Goryeo-era Korea, the series blends a period drama's courtly texture with a medical drama's clinical focus. Its tone is romantic and earnest, with bursts of action and wry banter, and its atmosphere is that of a kingdom on the edge of conspiracy. Fans of Outlander, Goblin and Mr. Sunshine will find resonance in its mix of time travel, historical sweep, and star-crossed devotion.
