## Synopsis

My Fair Princess (1998-2004) is a Taiwanese television period drama series created by Chiung Yao and broadcast on TVB Jade, CTV and Hunan Television. Zhao Wei stars as the spirited, rule-breaking Xiaoyanzi, a commoner-raised girl who is suddenly reclassified as a princess and must navigate the rigid rules of the Qianlong Emperor's court. Ruby Lin plays Xia Ziwei, a gentle rival whose loyalty and love become entangled with the palace's intrigues, while Alec Su You-peng and Zhou Jie appear among the romantic and rival suitors. Each season is built from lighthearted misadventures, mistaken identities, and jealous schemes that spill out of the imperial household, with the emotional engine being a heroine who wants freedom and affection while the court demands obedience. Spanning three seasons and over a hundred episodes, the series moves like a long-running soap, mixing slapstick comedy with sentimental romance and melodramatic tension. Set in eighteenth-century Qing dynasty Beijing, it has the sweeping costume and courtyard look of classic Chinese period television. Its tone is warm, breezy, and often wistful, with a strong sense of friendship and sincerity. Fans of Empresses in the Palace and Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace will find similar palace romance and intrigue here.
