## Synopsis

Wentworth (2013-2021) is an Australian prison drama series created by Lara Radulovich and Reg Watson, produced for Showcase and FOX Showcase. Set in a fictional women's prison, it follows Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack), a woman held while awaiting trial for attempting to kill her husband, as she learns to survive a harsh institution run by guards and rival inmate factions. Her struggle to keep herself and those close to her safe drives the series, with alliances and betrayals shifting constantly among characters like Franky Doyle (Nicole da Silva), Vera Bennett (Kate Atkinson) and Liz Birdsworth (Celia Ireland). Across nine seasons and a hundred episodes of forty-five minutes each, the story unfolds as one continuing serialized narrative, with each season tightening the pressure on the inmates. The tone is gritty and emotionally raw, mixing menace and tension with moments of loyalty and resilience. It is a modern adaptation and sequel of the Australian series Prisoner, a reference that fans of Orange Is the New Black and Prisoner: Cell Block H will recognize in its focus on the fierce bonds and power struggles of women behind bars.
