## Synopsis

Suskunlar (2012) is a Turkish crime drama series created by Barbaros Bilgin for Show TV, adapted from Lorenzo Carcaterra's novel Sleepers. Murat Yildirim plays Ecevit Oran, a police officer and one of four childhood friends whose youth was shattered in a brutal juvenile detention home. Aslı Enver plays Ahu Kumral, and Sarp Akkaya plays Bilal Tutkun, both drawn into the friends' lives as the past comes back. Berk Hakman and Güven Murat Akpınar round out the principal group, with Reha Özcan playing Sait Karam. The engine of the series is a long-delayed reckoning: the survivors pursue the guards and officials who abused them, while the criminal world and the law close in around their plans. Each episode alternates present-day confrontations with flashbacks to the detention center, so the dread of the past steadily shapes the present. The show runs two seasons across twenty-eight episodes of ninety minutes each, one continuing story rather than a case of the week. Set in modern Turkey, it moves through urban streets, courtrooms and underworld hideouts with a melancholic, brooding intensity. Fans of Oz, Mystic River and Kurtlar Vadisi will find resonance in its blend of institutional cruelty, loyalty and vengeance.
