## Synopsis

Romance in the Rain (2001) is a Taiwanese and Chinese co-produced period romance series created by Chiung Yao and Lee Pyeong for TVB Jade. Set in 1930s Shanghai during the upheaval of the second sino-japanese war, it follows Lu Yiping (Zhao Wei), one of many children of a retired general with nine wives, who is banished from the family home by the scheming Wang Xueqin. Driven by resentment, Yiping plots revenge against her stepsister's love interest, He Shuhuan (Leo Ku Kui-Kei), a plan that pulls her into a web of jealousy, rivalry and divided loyalties. Her sister Lu Ruping (Ruby Lin) and the household's shifting alliances supply much of the friction. Across one 49-episode season the drama moves through heartbreak, sibling competition and quiet personal reckoning, with each episode built from family confrontations and tender encounters. Its tone is melodramatic yet wistful, a sentimental romance steeped in period costume and the weight of a turbulent era. Fans of Empresses in the Palace and Scarlet Heart will find resonance in its blend of courtly-style family intrigue and romantic longing.
