## Synopsis

Mr. Bean (1990-1995) is a British slapstick sitcom created by Richard Curtis and Rowan Atkinson for ITV1. Rowan Atkinson stars as the title character, an eccentric, socially awkward man who turns simple everyday tasks into chaotic situations. Each episode of this single-season run of fourteen roughly 25-minute installments is a self-contained errand or outing that spirals through a chain of mishaps, whether he is at a restaurant, a dentist's office, a museum or a public pool. Much of the comedy is wordless, built on pantomime, props and precise physical timing, and the show is driven by his cunning and his blithe immaturity rather than by a conventional plot. Supporting players such as Richard Briers, Caroline Quentin and Richard Wilson appear as the people caught in his wake. The tone is cheerful, gentle and breezy, with a nostalgic warmth that suits family viewing. Fans of Chaplin's silent comedies, The Office's socially awkward humor and Home Alone's mischievous slapstick will find much to enjoy in this sitcom of small disasters.
