## Synopsis

Mad Bull 34 (1990-1992) is a Japanese animated crime comedy series created by Kazuo Koike and produced by Magic Bus, Pony Canyon and Shueisha, a short four-episode run of 45-minute episodes. Rookie beat cop Daizaburo Eddie Ban, voiced by Yasunori Matsumoto, is paired with John Sleepy Estes, the veteran whose over-the-top tactics have earned him the street name Mad Bull, voiced by Akio Otsuka. Their precinct in New York City's 34th district is a pressure cooker of street thugs and mafia threats, and each episode is built around the next rough case that lands on their desks while Eddie struggles to keep his partner's unprofessional instincts from wrecking the squad. Supporting characters include Captain Allen, Perine Valley and the menacing Black Tattoo, who fill out the squad room and the neighborhood underworld. The tone is loud, breezy and irreverent, with action beats and crude slapstick undercutting the grit of a big-city police beat. Fans of Hill Street Blues and Miami Vice will find a similar appetite for urban cop chaos, while anime viewers who enjoy adult-oriented crime farce will recognize the Japanese take on American police stories. The series is a brief, self-contained curiosity that rewards a single sitting for its raucous, rough-edged energy.
