## Synopsis

Iron Chef America (2005-present) is an American cooking competition series created by Alton Brown for Food Network, a US adaptation of Fuji Television's Japanese Iron Chef. Each one-hour episode pits a new challenger chef against one of the resident Iron Chefs, among them Wolfgang Puck, Masaharu Morimoto, Mario Batali, Jamie Oliver, Duff Goldman, Rachael Ray, Cat Cora and Paula Deen, in a culinary game show built around a secret ingredient revealed at the start of the battle. The engine is simple and kinetic: challengers and Iron Chefs race a clock to turn one unfamiliar ingredient into a full menu that a panel of judges will taste and rank. Shape and scale are episodic, with a standing roster of chefs returning across thirteen seasons and hundreds of episodes, so each show stands on its own. Staged in a theatrical studio kitchen with an announcer and a roaring audience, the tone is breezy, competitive and playful, with a steady dose of culinary showmanship. Viewers who enjoy Chopped, Top Chef and The Great British Bake Off will find the same appetite for improvisation and spectacle.
