## Synopsis

Sword Art Online (2012-2020) is a Japanese anime series created for television and aired on Gunma TV and TOKYO MX, produced by A-1 Pictures. Its protagonist, a skilled swordsman named Kazuto Kirigaya (Yoshitsugu Matsuoka), finds himself among thousands of players who discover that their virtual reality game has become a prison where death in the game means death in reality. Principal characters include the fierce swordswoman Asuna (Haruka Tomatsu), the stalwart warrior Agil (Hiroki Yasumoto), and the cheerful Lisbeth (Ayahi Takagaki), each navigating survival within a floating castle of one hundred floors. The engine of the series is climbing those floors, with each episode mixing tense boss battles, sword fights, and quieter moments of friendship and romance between players bonding under constant threat. Spanning four seasons and ninety-six episodes, it is a serialized action fantasy with a strong science fiction premise. Its tone blends propulsive adventure with melancholic dread and sincere emotion, set in a near-future Japan that gives way to a virtual world. Fans of Log Horizon, Overlord and Accel World will find resonance in its blend of gaming worlds and survival drama.
