## Synopsis

Shades of Sin (2004) is a Brazilian telenovela created by João Emanuel Carneiro for TV Globo, a single-season serialized soap running 185 episodes. Taís Araújo plays Preta de Souza, a young woman from Maranhão, while Reynaldo Gianecchini plays Paco Lambertini, a carioca tourist photographer, and the two fall for each other only to be pulled apart by fate and by Bárbara Campos Sodré (Giovanna Antonelli), a woman fixated on his family's fortune. Tony, Moa, and the Sardinha clan add rival households, a twin brother, and tangled loyalties, while the wealthy Lambertini family's money looms over every romance. Each week the melodrama builds through reversals, misunderstandings, and rivalries that keep reshaping the central love affair. Set in contemporary Brazil, it moves between the northeastern state of Maranhão and Rio de Janeiro, with the sun-drenched look of Globo's prime-time productions. Its mood is romantic, heightened, and dramatic, with lighter side plots easing the heartbreak. Fans of Avenida Brasil, Mulheres Apaixonadas and Ugly Betty will find resonance in its class tensions and romantic sprawl.
