## Synopsis

Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (2013-2019) is a Japanese animated space opera produced by XEBEC and Anime International Company for TV Tokyo, a reimagining of the classic Yamato saga. Its humans are driven underground by the Gamilos invaders and have roughly a year before extinction. Young officers Susumu Kodai and Daisuke Shima, voiced by Takayuki Sugo and Kenichi Suzumura, receive a mysterious capsule from Mars that points to Iscandar, across the Magellan Galaxy, where the technology to save Earth may lie. The engine of the series is a ticking-clock voyage in which the battleship Yamato and its crew must survive fleet battles, ambushes and political strain while every leg of the journey shortens the time left. Across two seasons of twenty-six episodes each, the story balances large-scale ship combat with quieter character moments: crew rivalries, romantic tension and loyalties that harden into something like family. Set in the twenty-second century, it has a reflective, melancholic register and a grander, more adult sensibility than its predecessor. Fans of Battlestar Galactica and Mobile Suit Gundam will find resonance in its blend of war drama, interstellar mythology and emotional stakes.
