## Synopsis

SPEC ~ First Blood (2010) is a Japanese supernatural crime series created for TBS, a single-season limited series of ten 54-minute episodes. Erika Toda plays Saya Toma, and Ryo Kase plays Takeru Sebumi, an eccentric genius and a demoted special forces officer who team up inside Tokyo's Unidentified Crimes Unit, a secret police section that handles cases the official force cannot explain. Their engine is simple and concrete: each case pits them against a criminal with an inexplicable power, and they must prove the ability is real before they can stop the suspect. Raita Ryu, Saki Fukuda and Yu Shirota round out the principal team, and the episodes are built around investigative hunts that move from a single case toward a larger mystery. The tone is tense and eerie, with brisk procedural pacing, sharp dialogue and a dark, grounded look at violence. Fans of Heroes, Sherlock and Mentalist will find resonance in its blend of procedural detection and uncanny abilities, and viewers who enjoy Japanese crime television will find a distinctive, stylish take on the genre.
