## Synopsis

Mayo Chiki! (2011) is a Japanese school romantic comedy anime, broadcast on MBS and based on a light novel. Sakamachi Kinjiro stumbles onto a dangerous secret when he learns that Subaru Konoe, the most popular student at his school, is actually a girl working as butler to the headmaster's daughter Kanade Suzutsuki. Kinjiro must keep the secret while being pulled into the household's chaotic daily routines, where Kureha Sakamachi and the other students complicate every attempt at discretion. The engine is simple and comic: every near-exposure and misunderstanding threatens to unravel Subaru's disguise, and each episode builds its gags around awkward overlaps between public image and private truth. Its single thirteen-episode season is a self-contained, episodic-leaning romp with a serialized romance thread running beneath it. The tone is breezy and flirtatious, with ecchi-tinged fan service and a playful, sometimes sweet emotional register. Fans of Ouran High School Host Club and Love Hina will find a familiar mix of school comedy, cross dressing mistaken identity, and romance.
