## Synopsis

Jin (2009-2011) is a Japanese time travel medical drama series created for TBS, a two-season run totaling 22 episodes. Takao Osawa plays neurosurgeon Jin Minakata, who wakes up in the Edo era and uses his modern medical knowledge to help the people around him while searching for a way back to the present day. Haruka Ayase plays Saki Tachibana, a figure who anchors his story, alongside Keisuke Koide as Kyotaro Tachibana and Seiyo Uchino as Ryoma Sakamoto. The engine of the series is the tension between healing and history: Jin must treat patients with crude tools and no antibiotics, facing cholera, tuberculosis and infections while navigating the political turmoil of the late bakumatsu period. Each season unfolds as one continuing story rather than isolated cases, with the rigors of surgery and the dangers of a collapsing shogunate shaping every episode. Set in 1860s Japan, the show carries a melancholic, earnest tone, balancing grim realism with moments of hope and human warmth. Fans of Outlander and The Knick will find resonance in its blend of historical texture, medical procedure and time travel longing.
