## Synopsis

Jormungand (2012) is a Japanese seinen animated action drama series produced by White Fox, adapted from a manga. Its protagonist is Jonah, a cold-blooded child soldier who becomes the newest bodyguard for Koko Hekmatyar (voiced by Shizuka Itoh), an international arms dealer who runs a crew of hired guns. Jonah, voiced by Mutsumi Tamura, hates her trade but needs to follow her into the darkest corners of the black market if he is ever to track down those responsible for his family's slaughter. Koko is no ordinary merchant of death; she uses guile and cutthroat tactics to keep her clients armed while quietly cultivating her own warped plan for the future of world peace. Each episode is built from contracts that can explode into ultra violence, with the CIA hunting her and assassins eager to claim her head. The series spans two seasons across twenty-four episodes, one continuing story rather than isolated cases. Its tone is brutal, darkly comic and propulsive, with a restless energy and a cast of mercenaries who treat killing as business. Set in a contemporary global landscape of shadowy deals and international hot spots, it has the dark moral color of Black Lagoon and the gunfight swagger of Cowboy Bebop, with fans of Gunslinger Girl finding resonance in its child soldier heart.
