## Synopsis

Attack No.1 (1969-1971) is a Japanese animated shoujo sports drama produced by Tokyo Movie and broadcast on Fuji TV. Based on the manga tradition of girls' sports stories, it follows Kozue Ayuhara, a talented transfer student who joins the volleyball team at Fujimi College and quickly impresses demanding coach Hongō. Her closest ally is her teammate Midori Hayakawa, whose friendship steadies Kozue as she gets pulled into a rivalry with Yoshimura, the established star of the team. The engine of the series is Kozue's fierce ambition to become the best volleyball player at her school, in Japan, and eventually in the world, and each episode is built from practice sessions, matches, and the emotional strain of competition. The series is a single 104-episode season with a steady, earnest rhythm, its tone sincere and wholesome, with moments of tension and heartfelt determination. Its story presents the cost of ambition alongside the warmth of teammates. Fans of Ashita no Joe and Princess Knight will find resonance in its blend of athletic striving and personal sacrifice, and viewers who enjoy classic Japanese sports anime will appreciate its traditional storytelling.
