## Synopsis

Upstairs Downstairs (2010-2012) is a British period drama series created by Heidi Thomas for BBC One, a reimagining of the classic household saga. Set in 1936 Belgravia, London, the show follows the wealthy Holland family at 165 Eaton Place, led by Lady Agnes Holland (Keeley Hawes) and Sir Hallam Holland (Ed Stoppard), whose lives are entangled with their staff. Mr Warwick Pritchard (Adrian Scarborough) and Mrs Clarice Thackeray (Anne Reid) anchor the servants' hall, where loyalty, ambition and secrets pull against rigid class lines. Claire Foy plays Lady Persephone Towyn, while Neil Jackson's Harry Spargo and Art Malik's Mr Amanjit Singh add further tangles of romance and intrigue. Across two seasons and nine episodes, the drama moves through scandal and private desire, with the external pressures of the pre war years seeping into every room. The mood is elegant and melancholic, with a sense of a world on the edge of change. Fans of Downton Abbey and Gosford Park will find resonance in its intimate look at the lives behind the grand staircase.
