## Synopsis

The Returned (2012-2015) is a French supernatural mystery series created by Fabrice Gobert for Canal+. Set in a small French town in the shadow of an enormous hydraulic dam, the story begins when hundreds of previously dead relatives walk back home on the same day. Anne Consigny plays Claire, a grieving mother who must face her returned son, while Frédéric Pierrot as Jérôme and Clotilde Hesme as Adèle anchor the wider family drama, with Samir Guesmi as Thomas and Guillaume Gouix as Serge adding further tension among the townsfolk. The engine of the show is the community's struggle to live beside people who should not exist, as families navigate fear, secrecy and the reopening of old wounds while the town's own history presses in. Each episode lingers on quiet domestic moments rather than spectacle, building a slow, eerie dread. The series runs across two seasons and sixteen episodes, unfolding as one continuing story with an atmosphere of melancholy and unease. Fans of Twin Peaks, The Leftovers and Dark will find resonance in its mood of grief, small-town mystery and uncanny stillness.
