## Synopsis

Rectify (2013-2016) is an American crime drama series created by Ray McKinnon for SundanceTV, running four seasons and thirty episodes of one-hour installments. Aden Young plays Daniel Holden, a man freed from nineteen years on death row after new DNA evidence overturns his conviction for the murder of his teenage girlfriend. Abigail Spencer plays Amantha Holden, the sister who stood by him, while Luke Kirby plays Jon Stern, the lawyer and sympathetic ally pushing for the truth, and J. Smith-Cameron plays Janet Talbot, the grieving mother of the victim whose family feels the homecoming as an open wound. The engine of the series is Daniel's attempt to find a place in a world that has moved on, where every errand, job and family dinner carries the weight of suspicion. The story is built from quiet confrontations, strained reunions and small-town gossip that reignite old fears. Its long, deliberate scenes move at a contemplative pace and follow one continuing story across its seasons, rather than a case of the week. Set in a Georgia town, the drama has a melancholic, patient tone, with a haunting theme of guilt, forgiveness and the cost of a community's certainty. Fans of The Killing, Broadchurch and The Night Of will find resonance in its searching portrait of justice and its aftermath.
