## Synopsis

Get Smart (1965-1970) is an American spy comedy sitcom created by Buck Henry and Mel Brooks for NBC and CBS. Don Adams plays Maxwell Smart, a hilariously maladroit agent for the secret organization CONTROL, alongside Barbara Feldon as the sharp Agent 99 and Edward Platt as his chief Thaddeus. Each twenty-five-minute episode builds around a fresh scheme by KAOS, a criminal gang led by equally incompetent archvillains, and the comedy comes from Smart's blundering attempts to thwart it with absurd high tech gadgets and secret missions that go wrong at every turn. The show runs five seasons as a self-contained case-of-the-week format, with most episodes standing alone while recurring characters and the running joke of CONTROL's bureaucracy give the series its rhythm. Its satire of James Bond style espionage and cold war paranoia is played broadly, with deadpan timing, slapstick physical gags, and a breezy, affectionate tone. Fans of Austin Powers, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Spies Like Us will find the same spirit of goofy spy parody here. Its heightened sincerity makes it a warm, uncomplicated comfort watch for families and sitcom lovers alike.
