## Synopsis

Odisseia (2013) is a Portuguese miniseries created by Gonçalo Waddington, Bruno Nogueira and Tiago Guedes for RTP1. Across eight forty-five minute episodes, comedians Bruno Nogueira and Gonçalo Waddington play fictionalized versions of themselves, setting out on a caravan trip through Portugal in search of an escape from their daily lives and a way through their personal struggles. Their journey is interleaved with a fictionalized account of the making of the miniseries itself, so the production crew, the director and the assistants become characters in their own right, with Nuno Lopes and Miguel Borges among the supporting cast and Rita Blanco appearing as well. The engine of the show is the friction between a rambling road trip and the anxieties of the people trying to film it, with the jokes landing as much on the performers as on the country they pass through. Tone shifts between wry self mockery, gentle absurdity and a quieter melancholy about friendship and stalled ambition. Fans of The Trip, Extras and Summer Heights High will find resonance in its blend of improvised-feeling banter, meta framing and comedic honesty about the men behind the jokes. It is a single season, self-contained limited run that rewards viewers who enjoy comedy that examines its own making.
