## Synopsis

Corona de lágrimas (2012-present) is a Mexican telenovela created by Jesus Calzada and Manuel Canseco Noriega for Las Estrellas, produced by Televisa. Victoria Ruffo plays Refugio Chavero, a mother of three sons who, after being forced from their home, settles with them in a cramped apartment in a working-class Mexico City neighborhood. Her eldest son Patricio, a law student played by Alejandro Nones, dreams of a prosperous future and is pressed toward a match with Olga, while his brother Edmundo (José María Torre) begins courting Lucero (África Zavala) and unknowingly wounds Ignacio (Mané de la Parra), who secretly loves her. Refugio's modest job and failing eyesight set the emotional stakes as she puts her sons' needs ahead of her own health. The engine of the series is the daily friction between family loyalty, class ambition, and romantic rivalry, built from kitchen confrontations, workplace slights, and reconciliations that repeat in familiar telenovela rhythm. Structured as a long serialized melodrama across two seasons and more than two hundred episodes, it moves through heartbreak, sacrifice, and hope with a sincere, emotional, and cozy register. Fans of Rubí, La madrastra and Yo soy Betty, la fea will find resonance in its heightened romance, family suffering, and classic soap opera pleasures.
