## Synopsis

Into the Badlands (2015-2019) is a US martial arts fantasy series created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar for AMC. Daniel Wu plays Sunny, a skilled warrior bound to a feudal baron, who escorts a young boy named M.K. (Aramis Knight) across a dangerous territory ruled by rival barons. Emily Beecham plays The Widow, a powerful figure whose schemes shape the conflict, while Orla Brady's Lydia and Nick Frost's Bajie add further pressure and humor. The engine of the show is a fight for control of the Badlands, with each episode built around choreographed blade combat, shifting alliances, and a struggle over loyalty and power. Across three seasons the series moves as one continuing story rather than a case-of-the-week format, with a loose mythic journey at its core. Its tone blends gritty violence with moments of wit, and its atmosphere is dark, stylized, and kinetic. Set in a post-collapse future that echoes feudal China and Japan, the series draws on the classic Chinese tale Journey to the West. Fans of Warrior, Monkey, and Game of Thrones will find resonance in its martial spectacle and feudal intrigue.
