## Synopsis

The PJs (1999-2001) is a American adult animated sitcom created by Larry Wilmore, Eddie Murphy and Steve Tompkins for FOX and The WB. Eddie Murphy voices Thurgood Stubbs, the superintendent of a big-city housing project, whose daily job of fixing pipes, settling disputes and keeping tenants in line is complicated by his wife Muriel, voiced by Loretta Devine, and a rotating cast of neighbors. Across three seasons and forty-three episodes, the engine of the show is the friction between a man trying to keep the building running and the residents who keep finding new ways to test him. Each half-hour episode is built around a neighborhood crisis, a building-wide scheme, or a petty feud that escalates into chaos. The show is set in a present-day urban housing complex and approaches its setting with satirical bite, mixing broad slapstick with pointed commentary on poverty, bureaucracy and community life. Its tone is irreverent and warm at once, with a stop motion style that gives the characters a textured, handmade look. Fans of The Boondocks, Family Guy and Home Movies will find resonance in its sharp, character-driven adult humor and its affectionate satire of neighborhood life.
