## Synopsis

Liberation (1994) is a Turkish state-broadcast historical war miniseries produced by TRT, presented as a six-episode epic of roughly sixty-five minutes per installment. Rutkay Aziz plays Marshal Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasa, the commander at the center of the national struggle, alongside Savaş Dinçel as General Ismet Pasa, Ayda Aksel as Corporal Halide Edip Hanim, and Mehmet Aslantuğ as Captain Fazil Bey. The engine of the series is the campaign to drive back occupying forces from Anatolian soil, with the commanders weighing military strategy against political negotiation as each episode advances the front. Its shape is a single continuous arc told across one season, with large-scale battle set pieces, war councils and diplomatic confrontations with British prime minister Lloyd George and opposing generals. Set in the early 1920s during the Turkish War of Independence, the story unfolds in Anatolia and its surrounding fronts. The tone is solemn, heroic and patriotic, with a sweeping, pageant-like register that treats national survival as a collective sacrifice. Viewers drawn to Gandhi and Band of Brothers will recognize the same blend of historical reconstruction, political struggle and large-scale war staging.
