## Synopsis

Megas XLR (2004-2005) is an American animated mecha comedy created by George Krstic and Jody Schaeffer for Cartoon Network. Over two seasons and twenty-six episodes, couch potato Coop (voiced by David DeLuise) stumbles upon a giant robot in a junkyard, a machine sent back through time by the future warrior Kiva. Coop has modified the MEGAS so thoroughly that only he can operate it, and his best friend Jamie (voiced by Steve Blum) becomes his sidekick as they face the Glorft, an alien race also hunting the robot. The engine of the show is comic: a lazy slacker who would rather keep his shiny new toy than save the world, and who keeps getting pulled into battles he is barely prepared for. Each episode pairs brisk robot fights with gags that send up giant robot anime conventions. The tone is breezy, irreverent and affectionate toward its genre, with a cartoon sensibility that plays heroics for laughs. Fans of Gurren Lagann, Futurama and Invader Zim will find resonance in its mix of goofy parody, sci-fi adventure and slacker charm. Its episodic action sits inside a light serialized arc that rewards watching in order.
