## Synopsis

The Rose and the Thorn (Çemberimde Gül Oya) is a Turkish national-television historical drama series created by Çağan Irmak and Tomris Giritlioğlu and broadcast on Kanal D. Aired in 2004 and 2005, it runs as a single 40-episode season of roughly 75 minutes each. Selda Alkor plays Yurdanur Eroğlu, a woman whose life is shaped across generations, alongside Kenan Bal as Dinçer Bayraktar, Özge Özberk as the young Yurdanur, Melisa Sözen as Feriha Eroğlu, and Işıl Yücesoy as Sema Bayraktar. The story unfolds in late 1970s and early 1980s Turkey, a period of street unrest and ideological division, and the drama follows how private family bonds, rivalries and loyalties are pressed by the wider political climate. Its episodes are long, character-driven and serialized, built around intimate domestic scenes and escalating personal stakes. The tone is melancholic and sincere, with a warm family core set against a tense national backdrop. Fans of Rome, Downton Abbey and The Crown will find resonance in its blend of sweeping period scale and intimate generational melodrama.
