## Synopsis

Gonulcelen (2010-2011) is a Turkish romantic drama series created by Berkun Oya and Nuran Evren Sit for atv, inspired by Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion and its film adaptation My Fair Lady. Set in contemporary Istanbul, it follows Murat (Cansel Elcin), a thirty-year-old musician and music educator from a long line of wealthy, respected families, and Hasret (Tuba Buyukustun), a free-spirited flower seller from one of the city's most impoverished neighborhoods who has a foul mouth and occasionally sings in a band. Murat hears real potential in her untrained voice and commits himself to giving her classical training, so each episode turns on lessons, clashes of pride, and the friction between his polished world and her rough street life. Supporting characters including Levent (Onur Saylak), Gulnaz (Gunay Karacaoglu), Nesrin (Ayda Aksel) and Ethem (Ilhan Sesen) widen the circle of family and rivals around them. Produced by Tims Productions, the show runs across two seasons and fifty-six ninety-minute episodes, one continuing story rather than standalone cases. Its tone is warm and romantic, with humor drawn from the collision of cultures and a steady undercurrent of class tension. Fans of My Fair Lady, Pretty Woman and Kara Sevda will find the same appeal in its mix of romance, transformation and social contrast.
