## Synopsis

Battle of the Planets (1978-1979) is an American animated science fiction series created by Tatsuo Yoshida for syndication, adapted from the Japanese anime Gatchaman and produced with Tatsunoko Production. Five costumed heroes of the G-Force team, voiced by Ronnie Schell as Jason, Casey Kasem as Mark, and Janet Waldo as Princess, race to protect Earth and its space colonies from the expanding threat of the planet Spectra. Each episode of this 85-episode run is a self-contained space adventure built around a new villain scheme, vehicle chase, and rescue, with the team's gadgets and flying craft driving the action. Alan Young voices the robot Keyop and Keye Luke voices the mentor figure Zoltar, rounding out the ensemble. Set in an invented future of space colonies and interplanetary danger, the series is bright, earnest, and campy, with a jaunty theme and a cheerful heroic register. Fans of Voltron: Defender of the Universe, Star Blazers, and Gatchaman will find the same retro team-based space adventure appeal here, delivered as breezy, comforting weekday entertainment for younger viewers.
