## Synopsis

María Belén (2001) is a Mexican telenovela created by Julio Porter for Las Estrellas, a family melodrama built around a six-year-old orphan. Danna Paola plays María Belén Garcia Marin, the girl who survives an accident that killed her adoptive parents and becomes the unexpected heir to a large fortune. Harry Geithner plays her ambitious uncle Rogelio García Marín, who staged the crash to seize the inheritance and must now hide the child to carry out his plan. Nora Salinas plays Ana del Río, and René Lavan plays Pablo Díaz Cortázar, two of the adults whose loyalties and affections shape the household and its quiet battles. The engine of the series is a cat-and-mouse contest in which a frightened child, unaware of her own importance, is shuttled between hiding places while the uncle's schemes grow more desperate. The run spans 95 episodes in one continuing season, with each episode advancing the central deception rather than standing alone. The setting is contemporary Mexico, and the mood is tender and melodramatic, with sentimental moments of grief and loyalty balanced against open villainy. Fans of Annie, A Series of Unfortunate Events and classic Latin American family melodrama will find resonance in its orphan heroine and inheritance intrigue.
